Methylprednisolone sodium succinate
(CAS 2375-03-3)
Methylprednisolone Sodium Succinate is also the succinate ester of Methylprednisolone, it’s synthetic glucocorticoid is a water-soluble prodrug that is transformed into Methylprednisolone which has the following effects. The formula is C₂₆H₃₃NaO₈ and it undergoes rapid hydrolysis in the body to give the effects below that are highly potent; it has anti-inflammatory, immunossuppressive and antiallergic effects and is used commonly in emergencies and pharmacy. It’s effects include treatment of a variety of causes such as emergency in cases of severe allergy, spinal cord injury, acute asthma and acute autoimmune conditions such as an acute flair up of rheumatoid arthritis.

Key Features of Methylprednisolone sodium succinate
High Water Solubility
Exceptionally good water solubility from the sodium succinate ester group means that the molecule can be formulated to be rapidly deliverable IV/IM parenterally.
Rapid Speed of Action
It is transformed to active methylprednisolone within the body so that rapid treatment can start in emergency situations.
Greater Potency
Exhibits an approximately 5-fold higher anti-inflammatory activity compared to hydrocortisone and a 5-fold lower mineralocorticoid (Na retaining) effect.
Wide Clinical Utility
Effective and useful in acute immune mediated diseases; in case of anaphylactic shock. Rheumatic Diseases and acute relapse in Multiple Sclerosis.
Outstanding lyophilization stability
Excellent chemical stability when sterile, provides good shelf-life stability prior to reconstitution.
Pharmacopoeial Compliant
Manufactured to meet rigorous USP, EP & IP standards for purity, required for critical compounding applications.
FAQs
Administered by injection is an active, short-acting, potent, systemic corticosteroids: which acts for managing an attack or crisis; It’s used mainly for emergency and to treat conditions like asthma crisis, allergic reaction, acute shock and crises related to autoimmune disease in medical areas.
Attaching a sodium succinate ester increases greatly the water solubility of the drug, providing a suitable form to prepare a potent, concentrated form to be given quickly through vein.
The CAS number: 2375-03-3. Molecular formula: C₂₆H₃₃NaO₈. White to off-white powder, odor.
This dosage form may not be administered orally. Always administer methylprednisolone sodium succinate via the parenteral route (IV or IM injection). For oral therapy always administer methylprednisolone base or acetate orally in tablets.
